Full-Time Positions

Office Manager -  This individual will work directly with the firm’s partner group and will be responsible for implementing the firm’s administrative policies and office procedures. 

Essential Position Responsibilities:

  • Managing office processes such as scheduling and payroll to ensure the office runs efficiently

  • Responsible for firm accounting, firm financial statement preparation, firm accounts receivable and accounts payable management

  • Assist partner group with preparation and monitoring of firm budget

  • Lead new hire orientation and training programs

  • Assist with Human Resource functions as needed

  • Supervision of administrative department

  • Continuing education tracking

  • Tax preparation, client payroll and client bookkeeping projects may be assigned to the office manager as time permits

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma required, additional education preferred

  • Preferred 2+ years in payroll and bookkeeping experience

  • Preferred 2+ years of office administration experience

  • Preferred 2+ years of managing employees

  • Ability to meet deadlines and manage multiple projects simultaneously

  • Able to work effectively with minimal supervision

  • High degree of accuracy and attention to detail

  • Conflict management skills

  • Must be able to lift 30 pounds

Must be able to stand for extended periods of time

Payroll/Bookkeeping Specialist -  This individual is responsible for the processing of client payroll and associated tasks.  This individual will also perform bookkeeping services resulting in an accurate trial balance for assigned clients.

 

Essential Position Responsibilities:

  • Able to work directly with clients

  • Process client payroll in a timely manner

  • File and pay monthly and quarterly payroll taxes

  • File quarterly and annual payroll tax forms

  • File and pay sales tax

  • Process general ledger entries and make adjusting journal entries

  • Reconcile bank and credit card accounts

  • Prepare and assemble individual tax returns

  • Prepare and assemble business tax returns

  • Prepare 1099’s and other IRS year-end requirements

  • Trouble shoot and problem solve payroll issues

  • Support administrative staff

Qualifications:

  • Minimum 2-year accounting degree required, 4-year accounting degree preferred

  • Preferred 2+ years in customer service experience

  • Preferred 2+ years in payroll and bookkeeping experience

  • Ability to meet deadlines and manage multiple projects simultaneously

  • Able to work effectively with minimal supervision

  • High degree of accuracy and attention to detail

  • Adept at learning new software

  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills

  • Data entry skills with a knack for numbers

  • QuickBooks/Sage experience is a plus

  • Tax preparation experience a plus

Administrative Professional - The administrative professional is an important and vital staff member of our firm.  This individual is often the first impression of our company for most customers.

 

Essential Position Responsibilities:

  • Greeting visitors

  • Field phone calls and emails

  • Maintaining calendars for client appointments

  • Tax return and financial statement assembly

  • Data entry

  • Word processing

  • Mail distribution

  • File maintenance, scan documents

  • Process payments and accurately apply to customer accounts

  • Order and maintains office supply inventory

  • Assists with payroll and accounting functions

 

Qualifications:

  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills required

  • Organization, professionalism and dependability are of utmost importance

  • High school diploma required, additional education preferred

  • Preferred 2+ years in customer service experience

  • Must be able to lift 30 pounds

Must be able to stand for extended periods of time

Audit Associate - The Audit Associate will be an important member of our audit team, and will work on a wide variety of engagements including governmental, nonprofit and for profit entities. The applicant should have 2-5 years audit experience. The applicant should have strong communication skills and the ability to manage multiple projects. CPA preferred but not required.

 

Audit Senior/Manager - Applicant should be a CPA with a minimum of five years audit experience in nonprofit and government. Single audit experience a plus. Applicant should have strong communication skills and the ability to manage multiple projects.  This is a growth position that offers ownership opportunities.

 

Temporary Seasonal Positions

Seasonal Tax Associate - Miller McDonald is currently recruiting temporary seasonal help for February 1 through April 15th. The responsibilities of this position include interpreting data in order to prepare individual income tax returns. Qualified candidates must be detail oriented, organized, and able to communicate effectively with firm staff.

 

Internships

 

Accounting Internship - Miller McDonald offers flexible internships to enthusiastic accounting students. Our interns are exposed to all aspects of the profession, including tax, audit, software consulting and more. Qualified applicants are in their third or fourth year of a four year accounting degree. Internships are offered from February through Mid-April annually. Many of our interns are offered full-time positions with Miller McDonald at the conclusion of their internships.

Summer is a hopping time in our little town with the Water Carnival, arts & craft fairs, parades and the like. Bemidji hosts numerous athletic events throughout the year, including the Finlandia Ski Marathon, the Birchmont Golf Tournament, and the Blue Ox Marathon. There are fishing tournaments held annually and our very own event center is constantly hosting sporting events, concerts, and countless other events for your entertainment.

Passing the CPA exam is important, time consuming, and expensive. The firm pays you for your time off on exam day, provides opportunities to study at work during downtime, and also provides partial reimbursement for exam fees subsequent to passing all sections of the exam.
